Engagement Results
The City of Kalamunda undertook community engagement to help understand the community's views and perceptions on environmental sustainability.
The survey (available online and hard copy) was open from 18 June to 31 July 2019.
The survey was popular with 371 residents sharing their views on what environmental sustainability means to them, and what steps they currently take to be environmentally conscious.
Key findings
- 91.6% were concerned about the environment
Energy saving behaviour
- 70.3% always turn the light off when leaving a room
- 69.8% switch off the airconditioning when leaving a room
- 59.7% always set their computer on standby mode
- 40.4% turn off appliances at the wall most of the time
- 54.9% use cold water wash on the washing machine
- 74.2% always hang their clothes on the washing line rather than use a dryer
Waste and recycling
- 62.5% compost their food at home
- 92.1% recycle paper/cardboard
- 91.6% recycle plastic, cans and glass
- 21.2% recycle food/organics
- 52% recycle printer cartridges
- 74.1% recycle batteries
Renewable energy (solar)
- 57.6% have solar panels and 94% of respondents have heard of solar farms
