Forrestfield North
Consultation has concluded
In June 2014, the State Government announced the Forrestfield Airport Link, a $2 billion train line connecting with the Midland line near Bayswater Station, servicing the airport and finishing in the Forrestfield/High Wycombe area. The train line is scheduled to be up and running by 2020. Following this announcement, the State Government requested the Shire of Kalamunda explore the opportunities that a new train station could bring to the surrounding areas. This meant moving away from the industrial land uses, previously proposed, and focusing on urban uses more suitable for a train station precinct.
The new focus resulted in planning for the delivery of high density residential, a new activity centre and a commercially focused Transit Oriented Development precinct based around the new train station. In line with the draft North-East Subregional Framework, the focus of the high level District Structure Plan is to connect people with their place of work and recreation.
The planning process is well underway. Kalamunda Council approved the draft District Structure Plan on 29th September 2015, which was approved by the State Government on 4th October 2016. Take a look at the project plan or have a read of some of the previously prepared documents.

Forrestfield North Local Structure Plans Progress

The City of Kalamunda has completed the first stage of its community engagement activities for the development of Local Structure Plans for Forrestfield North.
The Forrestfield North project team is in the early stages of developing detailed Local Structure Plans and supporting technical documents for the Forrestfield North development area.
This will support the coordination and implementation of the subdivision and development around the Forrestfield Train Station.
Mayor Andrew Waddell said, “We thank all of the landowners and community members who attended workshops and completed surveys, with nearly 400 people getting involved.”
“I was very pleased to see so much interest. We took the approach of involving landowners and community members at this very early stage to ensure the draft structure plans are representative of community needs and desires, and to identify constraints which may need to be considered.”
Consultation outcomes show location was identified as a key feature, being close to employment, the city, transport and recreation, while connectedness, movement and tourism were identified as key areas of importance.
Participants said they appreciate the area’s existing vegetation, community feel and open spaces. They wish for this feeling to continue and would like the future development to feel family oriented, natural, relaxed and village-like, as well as being sustainable, modern, clean and contemporary.
When it came to discussion on density, some participants shared concerns around increased density and security, and some were supportive of higher density living around the station.
The project team is now using all the feedback put forward by landowners and community members, along with technical advice to draft the local structure plans, with public advertising of the draft plans to take place in early 2018.
