    What was the China decision?

China was Australia’s biggest market for recycling waste, but since January 2018, it has restricted imports of Australian plastic, textiles and mixed paper because of its high contamination rate. Now there are concerns that the unwanted waste will be relegated to landfill. This presents the opportunity for Australia to create a circular economy. The main challenge will come from what to do in the short term with recyclable material, while new processing is determined and to keep our residents recycling, repurposing and responsibly disposing of their waste products. To keep processing costs down and recycling up in our community, we must work together to improve efficiencies, while reducing contamination.
