Background

The City of Kalamunda is designing a new shared path for the south side of Berkshire Road, and the east side of Dundas Road. This path will connect residents and workers starting from the existing paths by Roe Highway and linking to the new High Wycombe Train Station.

The new red asphalt shared path will be 3.0 metres wide as per the example picture provided. The work is proposed to take place in 2021-22 financial year, during business hours (7:00am to 7:00pm).

The new shared path was originally identified in the City’s Bicycle Plan and is part funded under the Department of Transport’s Western Australia Bicycle Network (WABN) grants program.

Note: This path is in addition to the pedestrian path being provided on the north side of Berkshire Road as part of the Forrestfield Industrial Area Development Contribution Scheme.

Should you have any questions about the project, please contact the Asset Planning team on (08) 9257 9999 or email enquiries@kalamunda.wa.gov.au and quote “Berkshire Dundas Shared Path”.

Public consultation for this stage of the project has now concluded.

2020 Outcome

At this stage, it was not certain that WABN funding for construction would be available. As a result, the DCP was amended for Berkshire Road to remove the shared path item and instead include the completion and necessary upgrades to the existing 2m wide footpath on the northern side of Berkshire Road as the lowest cost / certainty item to facilitate pedestrian movements from the developments of the lots.

A clearance assessment has also been undertaken to all overhead services that cross Berkshire Road (Western Power consumer lines) to determine safe clearance requirements for Restricted Access Vehicle routes. This assessment noted that four overhead consumer lines are required to be under-grounded which is anticipated result in an estimated cost of $60,000 ($71,320 including allowances and charges).

2022 Update

WABN Berkshire – Dundas Shared Path

Project Status: In Progress

Estimated Completion Date: August 2022

Location: Berkshire Road – Dundas Road, Forrestfield.

Funding: The Project will be funded 50 / 50 by a Department of Transport Western Australian Bicycle Network (WABN) grant and the City.

Works are scheduled to commence in April 2022 for the construction of a new 1.4km shared path for the south side of Berkshire Road, and the east side of Dundas Road. This path will connect residents and workers to existing paths along Roe Highway and to the new High Wycombe Train Station.

Note that this path is in addition to the pedestrian path being provided on the north side of Berkshire Road as part of the Forrestfield Industrial Area Development Contribution Scheme.

These scheduled works are estimated to take sixteen (4) weeks to complete. The time-frames provided could vary slightly due to weather conditions and contractor availability.

Properties located adjacent to the proposed works may experience disturbance to the verge, which may include crossovers, reticulation, and lawns.  Any such disturbances will be fully reinstated after the completion of the works. Please contact the City of Kalamunda via the details provided below with any other project related matters including complaints or compliments.

Business access will be maintained as much as possible and a project manager will be in contact to make arrangements with businesses  .

Traffic management and detours may be in place during various periods of this upgrade. Please be patient and follow signage and directions accordingly.

The City would like to assure the community, that every effort will be made during these works to minimise impact on those who live and work nearby and also to the environment.
