What is the purpose of the Bicycle Plan?

The Bicycle Plan proposes cycling infrastructure grouped by dedicated Principal Shared Paths, strategic routes, local routes, training routes, and Safe Active Streets. The Bicycle Plan also proposes education and awareness programs to support the delivery of infrastructure and encourage the community to ride bicycles.

Generally speaking, the Bicycle Plan proposes to improve the safety of the cycling environment in the City of Kalamunda, through provision of better cycling paths and road spaces.

How was the Bicycle Plan developed?

In 2017, the City of Kalamunda engaged consultants Cardno to develop a draft Bicycle Plan for the City. The project was supported by grant funding by the Department of Transport. Extensive consultation was undertaken by Cardno and the City between February and March 2017 and consisted of two community workshops and a survey which generated over 200 responses from both residents and non-residents.

Feedback from the survey and community workshops have been considered and helped to shape the development of the current draft Bicycle Plan.

The Bicycle Plan is presented in two formats, one being the Bicycle Plan 2017 Technical Report mainly for internal use, and the other being the Bicycle Plan 2017 Summary Report for public use.
