The inaugural Community Builders Conference took place on Friday 27 September 2019 at Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.
The conference showcased a variety of community builders - those dedicated to 'building' their community through volunteering and the sharing of their time, talent and passion.
The Welcome to Country was conducted by Whadjuk/Balladong Noongar Elder Freda Ogilvie.
Keynote Speakers
Opening Keynote David Snyder – Community Building
Co-founder & Place Leader, Town Team Movement
Starting his career in Urban Planning, David is passionate about creating great places and enabling communities to ‘have a go’. David reflected on his experience in capacity building and teaching communities that you don’t always need a lot of resources to be resourceful.
Closing Keynote Tyler Lovell – Grass Roots Sports
Kookaburras Goal Keeper (Australian Men's Hockey Team)
In playing for one of Australia’s most successful top level sporting teams, Tyler has local connections stemming back to grass roots sports in Perth’s local hockey teams. Tyler reflected on how volunteers supported him throughout his career at a junior and senior sporting club level, and how they play a vital role in shaping our future athletes.
