Why is the City preparing a Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan?

    The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan (plan) is an informing strategy to the City
    Strategic Community Plan, ‘Kalamunda Advancing 2027’. The current plan is currently under
    review with the draft plan now available for public comment.
    The plan allows the City to ensure that it’s approach to community safety and crime prevention
    responds to those areas of most importance to the community

    How has the draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan been developed?

    The development of the plan has been overseen by the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee which includes representation from elected members, staff, community and WA Police.

    Input was sought from the community during mid 2019 via surveys and one to one pop up
    events to ensure it aligned with community needs and expectations.

    The plan is also informed by current community safety best practice models which included a
    review of other effective local government approaches

    What is the role of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee?

    The role of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee is to provide
    advice to Council on strategic and / or policy development to guide initiatives to enhance
    community safety and reduce antisocial behaviour within the City.

    When will the Community Safety and Crime Prevention plan be implemented?

    The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan will be implemented over the next five years
    and covers the period from 2020 to 2025.

    What is proposed in the Community Safety and Crime Prevention plan?

    The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan builds on the City’s existing community safety activities has five strategic focus areas.

    - Community awareness

    - Program and partnerships

    - Physical environment

    - Emergency management and ranger services

    - Precinct planning

    What are the next steps?

    The draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention plan is currently available to the public for comment until 5pm Wednesday 11 March 2020. All feedback will then be collated as part of the final Plan and provided to Council for consideration in mid-2020. The final Plan will then be implemented.
