Update 20 December 2023: The City of Kalamunda is providing public notice of the adoption of the City of Kalamunda Keeping and Control of Cats Amendment Local Law 2023. This law will come into effect on 29 December 2023.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 November 2023, Council resolved to make the City of Kalamunda Keeping and Control of Cats Amendment Local Law 2023.

The City made an amendment to the Keeping and Control of Cats Local Law 2023 to remove Clause 3.9(1)(b) “Each cat shall be contained on the premises unless under the effective control of a person”. This is due to Clause 3.9(1)(b) representing a further step in policy beyond that authorised by the Cat Act 2011(External link).

Background

The City of Kalamunda is seeking feedback on the draft Kalamunda Keeping and Control of Cats Local Law 2023.

The purpose of the proposed local law is to make provisions about,

  1. cats not being a nuisance,
  2. prescribing where cats are prohibited, and
  3. the number of cats kept on a premises.

The effect of the proposed local law is to extend controls over cats which exist under the Cat Act 2011.
