Background

The City of Kalamunda has released its first Draft Reconciliation Action Plan for comment and is encouraging the community to have their say.

The draft RAP has been developed from the information gathered as a result of the initial community engagement including input from various stakeholder meetings and workshops. Attendees included local aboriginal Elders, City residents and non-residents that have a significant connection to the area.

Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP) are about organisations from every sector turning good intentions into real actions and rising to the challenge of reconciling Australia. A RAP is a business plan that uses a holistic approach to create meaningful relationships, enhanced respect and promote opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

A Reflect RAP is for organisations starting out their journey of reconciliation. The City of Kalamunda’s Reflect RAP commits to completing a number of actions around the themes of Respect, Relationships, Opportunities and Governance, as this will reinforce that as a Local Government Authority we will have time to build relationships with our community.

- Attend the community workshop on Monday 25 March from 1pm at Lesmurdie Hall (96 Gladys Road in Lesmurdie)

Public Comment closes on 3 April 2019.

At the end of the public comment period, community feedback will be collated and incorporated into a final draft RAP to be presented to Council for final consideration
