What is a throughfare?

A thoroughfare is a road or path forming a route between two places. The policy considers and refers to thoroughfares owned or managed by the City of Kalamunda.

What is meant by public place?

A public place is any area that is generally open and accessible for use by the community. Examples include parks, plazas, public squares, and some carparks. The policy considers and refers to public places owned or managed by the City of Kalamunda.

    What is a mobile business?

The policy considers any business without a permanent trading location as a mobile business. Examples may include food trucks, florists, book sellers, coffee vans, barbers/hair stylists, and produce vendors, among many others. However, the vast majority are food trucks.

Who and what is this policy for?

The policy exists to speed up the process for mobile businesses applying to trade at City owned and managed thoroughfares and public places, by providing a list of pre-approved locations at which mobile businesses can apply to trade.

Why is the City reviewing this policy?

There has been an increase in the number of mobile businesses, predominantly food trucks, looking to trade in the City of Kalamunda, and the City wants to understand how and where mobile businesses can enhance community and economic activity, and the impacts that they may have for local ‘bricks and mortar’ businesses and the community. There is an opportunity to update the policy to include locations which better reflect the wishes of the local community.
