Consultation has concluded

The City of Kalamunda undertook a project to improve pedestrian safety and access at pedestrian crossings in the Kalamunda Town Centre. As part of this process, the City assessed and prepared designs for 16 crossings within the town centre, including the installation of a zebra crossing on Canning Road next to the Kalamunda IGA.

The proposed upgrades were promoted as an 'informing campaign' through a variety of channels including the City's social media platforms and an ad placement in the local newspaper. Letters were also dropped to residents living in the vicinity of the Kalamunda town centre. Residents were also invited to review the proposed upgrades and leave their feedback on the City's engagement platform.

One (1) survey response and several submissions were received during the comment period and some minor design changes were then made to accommodate the concerns.

Outcome
The proposed works were undertaken and completed by the City in late 2019.

    The City of Kalamunda is undertaking a project to improve pedestrian safety and access at pedestrian crossings in the Kalamunda town centre. As part of this process, the City has assessed and prepared designs for 16 crossings within the town centre, including the installation of a zebra crossing on Canning Road next to the Kalamunda IGA.

    The proposed changes are:

    • Construct and install a Zebra crossing on Canning Road by the Kalamunda IGA;
    • Clearly colour and improve the paths at the speed humps on Haynes Street so that they are not mistaken for zebra crossings;
    • Improve the pedestrian crossing point on Barber Street, seven crossings on Mead Street and two along Railway Road; and
    • Remove six parking bays that are currently stopping the safe view between pedestrians and drivers (four in Haynes Street and two in Barber Street).

    We invite you to review the proposed designs and provide your comment via our online feedback form. Comments close 5:00pm Friday 18 January 2019.
