What is happening at Lesmurdie Library?

    The City of Kalamunda is asking for public comment on the future use of the Lesmurdie School and Community Library.

    Why is the City reviewing the Lesmurdie Library?

    Despite additional promotional efforts usage numbers have not increased, with 13% of all the City’s library users accessing Lesmurdie Library currently.

    Comparative research from other Local Governments was undertaken with the following results:


    Where would community members have to go if the library was closed to community?

    Community members would be able to go to any of the other three library services in Kalamunda, High Wycombe and Forrestfield. Library school holiday programs , preschool story times, visits to schools, author talks and other Library Services events would continue to operate from these locations.

    What will happen to school children who use the Library?

    The School would continue to operate the library.

    What will happen to staff?

    If the Lesmurdie Library became a school only library, City of Kalamunda permanent staff would be relocated to our other community library facilities in Kalamunda High Wycombe and Forrestfield. Other staff would be included in the casual pool.

    What will happen to resources?

    Resources and equipment owned by the City and State Library would be relocated to the Kalamunda, Forrestfield and HIgh Wycombe Libraries.

    Library members are also encouraged to come along to a community workshop at the City Administration, 2 Railway Road in Kalamunda on the 24 October 2017 at 6:00pm.

    The public comment period closes on 13 December 2017.

    What will happen next?

    Following the public comment period staff will review the community feedback and prepare a report to Council on the outcomes of the consultation.
