Consultation has concluded

The Maida Vale Reserve Master Plan was adopted by Council at its December Ordinary Council Meeting. The site is environmentally significant, and this was a key focus in the design.

Some of the key stage one - priority projects of the new master plan include upgrading power to the site; Connecting site to the sewer system; A pedestrian crossing across the car park and fencing; Formalising parking (off Ridgehill Road); Archery improvements (Entry and Car Park); Upgrades to the Norm Sadler Pavilion; Upgrades of oval lighting and permanent diamonds; Installation of baseball practice pitching nets, batting nets and backing nets to diamonds; Signage to the precinct (entrances and environmental); and new water fountains.

The longer-term vision includes upgrades to the existing netball courts, improved car parking and upgrades to the skate park.

Mayor John Giardina said, “It was fantastic to see such a robust community engagement process, and to see a final outcome that is representative of the feedback received by the Community.”

“The draft master plan was endorsed for public comment in July 2018. The community engagement process concluded on 31 August 2018, with 250 visitors to the project’s engagement portal, over 70 survey responses and submissions, as well as direct input from the sporting clubs, groups and residents during the comment period.”

“Community members provided feedback, which resulted in the team reviewing several parts of the draft master plan. In particular, a majority of comments related to the proposed location of the tennis club; the proposed relocation of the skate park; and the expansion of the car park and proposed new car park access road.”

The City listened, and revised the plan to ensure the retention of the tennis club facilities and the skate park in their current locations, a reduced car park area with additional vegetation screening as a buffer for adjoining properties, and removal of the rear access road.

To confirm that the revised plan had captured the latest feedback, sporting clubs, nearby residents and the wider community were invited to an additional community workshop in late September 2018.

Following the presentation and discussions, the feedback indicated that there was strong support from the Maida Vale Tennis Club, Kalamunda United Soccer Club, Kalamunda Rangers, other key user groups and nearby residents for the revised plan.
