Pest Control: Fox Control Program

Consultation has concluded

Specialised programs have been developed Australia-wide to help control introduced pests and their impacts on our farm animals, pets, native wildlife and ecosystems. Fox trapping is carried out every year by the City of Kalamunda to help keep fox numbers under control.

The program involves the temporary installation of soft-jawed leg hold traps at City locations known to be frequented by foxes. The traps are monitored daily by the City’s qualified contractor. If a fox den is identified, the City may also undertake den destruction. The program is scheduled to coincide with the fox breeding season.

Soft-jawed leg hold traps are currently used by the City as they are considered the most efficient method for our local conditions, are unlikely to cause injury to foxes and have the lowest impact on non-target species.

More information on the program and fox trapping methods can be found at www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/foxes.
