Background
The Plants for Residents event is held annually and provides free plants to the residents of the City of Kalamunda to support the establishment of natural habitat in backyards and verges across the City and improve our urban canopy.
Usually the plants are given out over two events and are quite popular with residents, with all plants allocated at each event.
Due to current health advice at the time from the Federal and the WA Government relating to Covid-19, there were restrictions on gatherings, events and face-to-face customer service. As a result, the City’s Plants for Residents initiative for 2020 was delivered in an alternative format, focusing on being an online and contactless service.
Promotional and Engagement Activities
A media release advising residents of the change in the program delivery was issued on 19 May 2020. On the same day, an advertisement on the City’s Facebook page was placed, scheduled to run for one week. Registrations opened on 19 May, with residents able to register and select their plants via TryBooking. The program was popular, with the entire plant allocation exhausted within 48 hours. Plant collections took place over three (3) days between 5-7 June 2020.
