Consultation has concluded

Thank you to those community members who participated in one of our ‘Sneak Peek’ Tours of the Kalamunda Community Centre on Wednesday 17 February 2021.

We loved showing off this fantastic community asset to you, and we trust you enjoyed having a 'sneaking a peek'.

A refresher:

The $6.6 million community centre at Jorgensen Park was officially opened by Premier of Western Australia Hon Mark McGowan, Federal Member for Hasluck Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP and Mayor Margaret Thomas JP on the 11 February 2021.

The building has seven activity rooms, two halls, office space, a kitchen, outdoor play areas and a stunning viewing deck overlooking the iconic Jorgensen Park and Kalamunda National Park. It’s sleek, modern design, showcasing natural elements like stone and timber, pay homage to its natural bush setting.

Each room has been named after a Noongar colour, representing the colours of the Wagyl snake (rainbow serpent) underpinning the connection of the site with the Bibbulmun Track. Room signage incorporates works by local artist Aurora Abraham.

The centre’s multi-purpose design and state of the art technology means we’ll not only see meetings, lessons, events and exhibitions take place here, but it also doubles as a venue suitable for parties, weddings and the like.

A few fast facts:

  • At the start of construction, 900m3 of Kalamunda rock was removed from the site.
  • During design the building was moved around several times in order to preserve significant trees on site.
  • The building is designed to allow as much natural ventilation as possible for cooling minimising the need for air conditioning.

Funding for the $6.6million building came from the State Government of Western Australia ($3m), Lotterywest ($2.5m) and the Federal Government ($1m) with a $150,000 contribution from the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre

The City will continue the operational management of the centre and rooms can be hired by anyone in the community for one off or recurring bookings by contacting the City. (Bookings expected to be available from mid-March 2021).

But now . . .we are keen to know what you thought of the tour; and more importantly what you thought of our new Kalamunda Community Centre.

Please fill in the feedback form below or email us your thoughts. A hardcopy version of the feedback form is also available from the Documents Library tab and can be downloaded, printed and returned to the City in person, or by post if preferred.

Please provide feedback before 5 March 2021.

Thank you for providing your feedback. Our Survey is now closed.
