Data shows that the demand for library services in the City of Kalamunda is lowest in
the evening-time. To ensure centres are operating efficiently, the City will be
trialling modified opening hours. During this time, libraries will close at 6pm
on nights they would normally close at 8pm.
The trial will take place from 2 July to 31 August 2018 (inclusive). 6pm
closing times will revert back to 8pm from 1 September 2018. If the trial is successful and is supported by the
community, the City will implement the modified hours annually each winter
(June through August), when the demand for evening-time services is lowest.
A recent audit of the City of Kalamunda’s libraries
has shown that patronage is lowest between the hours of 6pm and 8pm. Patronage
is expected to decrease further during winter, as days are shorter and colder.
The trial is designed to coincide with the time period expected to have the
lowest demand for library services.
