Youth Persuasive Writing Competition – Shape the Future of Kalamunda

Students from across the City of Kalamunda are invited to enter a persuasive writing competition as part of our Local Planning Strategy engagement. This is your chance to influence the future of your community and develop powerful writing skills along the way.

What to do:

You may have been given the writing package in class that will help guide how to write an effective composition or you can access the attachment below.

Once you have engaged with the guide, write a persuasive text (maximum 300 words) about one change you would like to see in your suburb or city. This could be about housing, nature, transport, sport, shops, parks, or anything that matters to you. Your piece can take the form of a speech, letter, or editorial. Be persuasive.

Prizes:

  • First place per school group: Lower School (yr 7-8), Middle School (yr 9-10) and Upper School (yr 11-12): $100 gift card.
  • Second place per school group: $50 gift card.

Winning entries may be presented to Council as a form of delegation or featured in our Local Planning Strategy publications.

Who can enter:

All students living or attending school in the City of Kalamunda. Teachers are welcome to incorporate the activity into lessons, resources and templates are available on this page to support classroom delivery.
